Exhaust fumes can kill you in minutes and you cannot see or smell them. Never run the generator inside or in any enclosed or partly enclosed space — house, garage, shed, carport, caravan, crawl space, or under a deck or veranda. Opening a door or window does not make it safe, and never run it near an open door, window or vent.
Always run it outside in open air, well clear of every opening, with the exhaust pointed away from buildings and people — if you can smell exhaust indoors, the generator is too close and must be shut down and moved further away. Early signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness — if anyone near a running generator feels any of these, get them into fresh air immediately and seek medical attention. Continued exposure causes loss of muscular coordination, loss of consciousness and then death — don't wait to see whether it passes, call 000.
Never back-feed a premises — do not connect the generator to a building's wiring or switchboard unless a changeover or isolation switch has already been installed by a licensed electrician. Three-pin plugs only: earth reaches your tool through the plug, so never use a two-pin plug, unearthed lead or adaptor.
Keep it dry — never run it in rain or wet conditions, near a pool or sprinklers, or with wet hands. The outlet panel is RCBO-protected to AS/NZS 3010:2017, so no separate RCD or earth stake is needed — plug straight into the outlet panel and never bypass it. Match the load to the machine: rated 5.5 kVA continuous, 7.0 kVA maximum, through the 15 A and 32 A outlets. Never link it to another generator — parallel operation is only between two EU70is units with a Honda-approved parallel kit, never different models.
Keep the generator at least 1 metre clear of buildings, vehicles and other equipment on every side while it runs — this is a fire clearance, not a safe distance for exhaust fumes. Move dry grass, leaves, fuel, rags and packaging well away before you start, and never enclose the generator in any structure, box, crate or cover — the exhaust system gets hot enough to ignite some materials. The muffler stays hot well after shutdown; let it cool before you touch, cover or store the machine.
Petrol is extremely flammable and petrol vapour can explode — treat every refuel as the highest-risk moment of the day. Stop the engine and let it cool first; never refuel while the generator is running or still hot. Unleaded petrol only, refuelled outdoors in a well-ventilated area without overfilling the tank, with no smoking, flames or sparks anywhere near the generator or the fuel. Wipe up every spill completely before you start the engine, and store petrol only in an approved container.
Learn the shutdown procedure before you start the engine — in an emergency you need to shut it down without stopping to think. Understand every control, output socket and connection before you put a load on the machine, and check the safety labels — if one is missing or unreadable, tell us before you use it. Anyone who operates the generator must receive the same instruction, and children must never operate it without parental supervision.
Fire, ambulance or police, or suspected carbon monoxide exposure: call 000 — for suspected carbon monoxide, get into fresh air first, then call. Faults, damage, or a missing or unreadable safety label: stop using the machine and contact us before you continue at contact@timech.com.au. This is a condensed summary of the safety information in the Honda EU70is Operator's Manual; the full safety section of the Operator's Manual is supplied with this machine and applies in full, and where anything here differs from the manual, the manual prevails.
